While Paris may be the City of Love, New York City doesn’t fall too far behind. From sipping craft cocktails to underground comedy shows, New York is an infinite playground for traveling couples. Valentine’s Day may be a few days overdue, but there is nothing stopping you from indulging in these fun date ideas on any weekend.

Sip Craft Cocktails on one of NYC’s many Rooftop Bars

New York City is notorious for its many rooftop bars and restaurants. With constantly crowded streets and non-stop traffic, it is no wonder individuals highly seek these relaxing, rooftop sanctuaries. Surround yourself with the glittering lights of the city and entertain your date with cocktails and a view.  For incredible sightings of the Empire State Building, head over to the Rooftop at Pod 39 Hotel or the Refinery Rooftop.

Dance the night away with Salsa, Tango, or Swing

Swing, tango, salsa – you name it, NYC has it all. Transport yourself back into the days of soulful jazz and swing the night away to classics from the 1940’s at Swing 46 or travel to the amorous streets of Argentina for the night and opt in free salsa lessons at the Iguana Restaurant & Dance Lounge. If you would rather experience the dance and culture by observation instead, head to La Nacional for traditional flamenco dance performances.

Laugh your heart out at a Comedy Show

Home to NBC’s Saturday Night Live, the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and many more laughter inducing shows, NYC is teeming with aspiring comedians from all parts of the world. Managing to acquire tickets for these acclaimed shows a bit challenging. Instead, head over to the Comedy Cellar for a guaranteed night filled with laughter. Tickets range in price and there is a two item minimum but it is well worth the money to see quality comedy in a fun, affordable environment. Don’t forget to make reservations in advance! Shows fill up quickly but there are multiple options available throughout each day.

Splurge on a Romantic Restaurant reservation

For the more traditional types, drinks and a dinner might sound more appealing. As busy as the city may be, dinner reservations never come in short in this Empire State. New York City possesses some of the most intimate dinner settings in the world. For a fixed course and set menu, head to One if by Land, Two if by Sea.  Milk and Roses offers unique food in a cozy garden space. For the more frugal types, New York is also home to a handful of BYOB restaurants including Milon or Cherin Sushi.

Stroll through Central Park

Central Park is the perfect city escape. With about 843 acres of green space, it provides a nice break from the endless, concrete jungle. If you want to explore all of the park, Citi Bike provides affordable bike rentals with check-in stops at most entries and exits of the park. Rent by the hour, half-day, or full day to see every bit of this magnificent park. If it is a nice day out, grab a coffee and pastry from my favorite coffee shop, Birch Coffee, and opt for a picnic in the park.

Sing along to a Broadway Show

What is a trip to New York without tickets to a world famous Broadway show. Talent from all over the world audition for these renown theatrical performances. Although at times pricey, there are many ways to score affordable Broadway show tickets. Visit the TKTS Ticket Booth the day of the showing or book well in advance. There are also company and student discounted tickets available for purchase online as well.
